This summer the Southbank are transforming their site into a place of wonder and discovery with the help of artists, writers and performers from around the globe as part of the Festival of the World.
Southbank Centre is teaming up with LEGO to bring a giant map of the world to the Riverside Terrace, made out of more than 1 million LEGO bricks. Visitors can complete a LEGO board (think painting by numbers, just in LEGO instead!) and leave their mark at the festival. The completed map – 5m by 12m – will involve just under 4,000 people.
I just love the Southbank and really hope we can go and visit this work in progress. Unfortunately it’s suitable for anyone over 5-years-old which is a shame as I know the toddler would love to get involved, I think he’d have so much fun!
Our World in LEGO runs from late July and will grow each day until mid-August and then be on display for a fortnight. Each day from 12 noon to 4pm you can play your part in laying one of almost 4,000 LEGO boards designed especially for the Festival of the World.
The event is being organised with the help of Duncan Titmarsh who is the UK‘s only certified LEGO professional. I can’t wait!
