Tea time treats

I’m sure we can’t be the only family who must have cake readily available in the cake tin. We knew the weekend was going to be really busy as we had a house guest and knew we would have to pull out all the stops to impress. Fortunately we had time to make a delicious lemon and lime drizzle cake for afternoon tea. It was just a bit different from the usual cake and we all enjoyed a slice after a trip on the tube to meet nanny.

train watchingThe toddler loved his trip to Paddington and we got there early enough to watch the trains come and go. It was really busy but he was just so excited to be there and see everything going on. We grabbed a quick bite to eat before jumping back on the tube and going home.

I have a few baking projects up my sleeve. Last week it was all about the mini Victoria sponges (delicious!) and this week I’m going to be searching around for autumnal recipes. The nights are drawing in, we’ve had thunder storms, the leaves are beginning to fall from the trees and I feel like trying some comforting recipes to fill the cake tin.

For me autumn hints of Christmas and I’ve been plotting a mixture of handmade and bought gifts like last year. With the toddler being a little bit older I’m sure he’ll have an opinion. There will definitely be some tea gifts, book tokens,  homemade sweets and treats. I suppose I had better get on with making sure the toddler is ready to go back to school before I start planning for Christmas!
