The Fairtrade Big Fair Bake Challenge!

By | September 23, 2012

We thought we would take part in the latest Tots100 challenge to develop a baking creation inspired by one or more Fairtrade certified ingredients. For more information about the Fairtrade cause you can check out this website. We chose to make chocolate brownies using Fairtrade chocolate and sugar.

Ingredients:

  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 250g caster sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1tsp vanilla essence
  • 60g plain flour
  • 60g cocoa powder

Method:

Melt the dark chocolate and leave to cool. Beat the butter and sugar, add the eggs and vanilla essence. Mix in the melted chocolate and slowly add the flour and cocoa powder. Spoon the mixture into a greased tin and bake for 20 minutes at 180°.

As part of the Take a Step campaign, the Fairtrade website as offering everyone who buys and bakes with Fairtrade ingredients a chance of winning a fabulous KitchenAid blender. All you have to do is visit the Fairtrade website and tell them who you’re baking for. Simple!

Baking with Fairtrade ingredients is one easy way for everyone to make a difference to millions of people who desperately need a better deal from trade. Without a fair price for the crops they grow, many farmers struggle to support their families. Fairtrade offers farmers and workers the safety net of a fair price today and a little extra to invest in projects which benefit the whole community, such as clean water, education and health care.

The Big Fair Bake is part of the year-long Take a Step campaign, which aims to get the UK to take a total of 1.5 million steps for Fairtrade in 2012, a step for every farmer and worker in the Fairtrade system.

The PJs Edward is wearing – Aaron wore them last night. We got them in Wood Green’s Primark yesterday (we shopped before Ally Pally).
Is that where you got yours too?
I am REALLY impressed with the sizing and the quality
