Painted stones house

By | June 25, 2014

We’ve been enjoying crafting with stones recently. We’ve collected quite a collection and it’s lovely to be able to use them. I thought a little house would be fun.

How to make a painted stone house

For this craft I admit I painted the stones myself although you could let your children paint them too. I wanted to create something the children could play with and use their imagination. I sorted about 20 smooth, flat stones and painted 11 of them for the roof, 4 for windows, one for a door and a couple of stones which could be used for a path and garden.

I used acrylic paint and gave them a couple of coats of paint so the colours were obvious. Then I gave the stones and craft sticks to my children. They took them outside and started talking about how to make the outline of a house and what features it needed.

It was really sweet watching them play with the stones and seeing what they created.

Some of our ladybird stones were hunted out to be added to the garden too.

They had great fun and when they were finished we put the stones in a bag for next time. I can’t wait to see what they create next.
