A couple of weeks ago we were sent a copy of Act Normal and Make Everything Fair to review. At 5000 words, the “Act Normal” beautifully illustrated books are just the right length for younger or more reluctant readers, but the stories also have the depth of ideas to challenge more confident readers. They are recommended for ages 5-9.
In Act Normal and Make Everything Fair you can learn about elections and democracy with Jenny and Adam. Jenny decides she wants to give everyone some fun by inviting a fair AND a circus to town, but it’s the eve of the Election and she gets more than she bargains for. 100 fairs all turn up at once, and soon, she has to take both competitors in the political race on the run from the press in the world’s largest roller-coaster. Jenny and her brother try to ACT NORMAL, but can they get the candidates to agree before they get caught up in the media circus?
We liked the concept of this book and had fun reading it with my 5 year old. He hasn’t read many chapters books but they’re great for his age and reading ability. This is a fun way to introduce the concept of elections and democracy but I think it may have confused him, but then again he’s always full of questions!
We would recommend this book and the best thing is it’s part of a series which cover other topics from DNA, global warming, magnetism and why adults spend too much time playing on their mobile phones. The books’ strong female and male lead characters, Jenny and Adam, tell enthralling and giggle-inducing stories that are fun, educational and inspiring for girls and boys alike!
