According to Wikipedia, Caen Hill Locks are a flight of locks on the Kennet and Avon Canal, between Rowde and Devizes in Wiltshire. The 29 locks have a rise of 237 feet in 2 miles or a 1 in 44 gradient. The locks come in three groups.
We stopped off on the way back to London and the children did a great job walking up the hill, stopping to watch the locks opening and closing and the boats passing through. The toddler was allowed to help someone open the gate which he really enjoyed.
I think we’ll be adding a canal boat holiday to our list of things to try with children!
Great pictures. BB looks very strong doing his lock-keeping, and LS is doing her lady-like act again…………super children……….xxxxx
